Sin will take your further than you wanted to go.
Sin will keep you longer than you wanted to stay.
Proverbs 5:22, “His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.”
You choose the path you will take but you cannot control the consequences. You are where you are by reason of your own choice, but you do not control what happens to you in the place you have chosen.
What you believe has the power to bind you! If you believe a lie, the lie will influence the way you think, talk and act. If you believe a false doctrine, your mind and spirit will be restrained from doing anything contrary to that doctrine. If you believe a lie you will promote it and share it with others.
Mark 3:27No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
Many people have allowed themselves to be deceived by believing what someone has told them. They have not examined the error to know that it is contrary to the Holy Scriptures. They have chosen to believe the lie because of some measure of credibility they have ascribed to the one who has shared the lie with them.
Some men and women have been true saints of God and the Lord Jesus Christ has put His approval upon their life with signs and miracles. Then when that spiritual person backslides and departs from the truth, people continue to follow them in their error because of their past life.
The concept of bondage and forced service is not found in the relationship of men with Jesus Christ. Our relationship is wholeheartedly voluntary.
We are bound by love, but it is never forced.We endeavor together in the bond of peace, but it is never against our will.
Ephesians 4:1-31 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
We are exhorted to live holy and we have received the commandment to obey God’s word, but it is never forced. We are counseled to examine ourselves and be faithful to follow our Lord Jesus Christ. But it is always voluntary. We wholeheartedly choose to live in obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 13:5Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
God has so designed our lives upon this earth that we can choose who is our teacher.
When you place your confidence in a person to trust what they teach, then that person’s beliefs will begin to influence what you believe.
You will be emotionally and spiritually “held” by their teachings because you have trusted their integrity and you have accepted them as your teacher.
I am not trying to prevent you from having confidence in a pastor or teacher. However, you must always examine what they teach and compare it with the Word and the Spirit. You must do this with an attitude of humility and respect toward the “man” teacher and confidence in the “Holy Ghost ” who has been given to teach you all things.
Romans 6:12-2312 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Are you in bondage to sin? Have you become the servant of sin?Are you a servant of righteousness in Christ Jesus?
Verse 16 tells us: “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”
You choose your master and then your master chooses what happens in your life. The greatest choice you have in this life is to choose whom you believe. Either you believe Jesus or Satan. Everyone makes that choice. Some people make that choice in ignorance, not knowing the consequences of their choice.
Acts 3:13-2113 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.
14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.
16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
17 And now, brethren, I wot [i.e.know] that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
The religious leaders and the people of Israel knew in part what they were doing when they condemned Jesus. But they did not know the fullness of the consequences of their actions. Peter said that they did it through ignorance. But their ignorance did not excuse their sin, because they knew that Jesus was righteous and they knew that their condemnation was unjust. They were guilty of over-riding the Holy Ghost and following the counsel of men whose hearts were deceived by Satan.
The Holy Spirit is faithful to all men to teach them the right way and to warn them against every unjust and unrighteous way. The Holy Spirit came to the Apostle Paul and witnessed to him that his religion was in vain. He had been over-riding his conscience and doing things he knew in his heart was not right in the sight of God.
Romans 7:14-2514 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
The Apostle Peter warns us against deceitful men who have followed after the way of pride, covetousness and unrighteousness to do what their own carnal heart desires instead of doing the perfect will of God.
2 Peter 2:12-1912 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
Matthew 24:25For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
If “the very elect” children of God are not careful and watchful, they can be deceived. This will not happen if you are listening to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is faithful to give you warning against the temptation or false doctrine which Satan has brought against you.
The Word of God and the Holy Ghost are your defense against false doctrine, temptations and false teachers. You must pray and study to prepare yourself to defend your soul against every evil which Satan will bring against you to turn you away from the truth.
