I believe that too many people think of condemnation when they think of judgment. The proper thought you should have in association with “judgment” is “instruction”, not condemnation.
The Bible teaches us that the church of God is built up with judgment.
If you think that is condemnation, then you will put more emphasis on condemning people than on teaching and instructing them in the right way of holiness and truth. Or, you may avoid the judgments of God by thinking that it is wrong to judge what God has condemned.
When we stand against what God has condemned, it is not our judgment but rather it is God’s judgment.
Proverbs 21:15It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
It is a joy to the saints of God to “do judgment.”
It is a joy to obey the righteous commandments of God, because it produces the peaceable fruits of righteousness. Nothing is better than being right. Nothing is worse than being disobedient. A clear conscience is worth the whole world. Being confident of our relationship and fellowship with God is the most precious thing we can ever have in this life.
1 John 5:2-32 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
The children of God do not find His commandments hard and grievous. It is our delight and pleasure to do the will of God. We are willing to suffer with our Savior. We know that we will face difficulties, afflictions and persecutions. We face those things with a strong hope and a strong sense of peace. We know that God will reward us when we are faithful to serve Him.
Amos 5:4-74 For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:
5 But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.
6 Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.
7 Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,
Wormwood is poisonous hemlock. When judgment is rendered without righteousness, it will kill and destroy.
Parent to child, pastor to congregation and any person to any person.
Judgment without rightousness and mercy will destroy authority, confidence and influence.
A parent or a pastor will lose their authority over the people. The people will not be able to hold confidence in their ability to render justice. The leader will lose his influence over those whom he needs to lead, guide and instruct.
When a minister or a parent or a teacher becomes a “striker” instead of a teacher, he has departed from God’s way and began to use methods prompted by carnality.
Amos 6:11-1311 For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:
13 Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?
Gall is a poisonous plant like hemlock.
It is a terrible thing for rulers and leaders and all people in positions of authority to pervert judgment and turn it into something bitter and poisonous.
Luke 12:45-4745 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
It is a serious matter when leaders begin to beat or thrash the children for matters less than willful disobedience. We thrash sinners and Babylon. We do not thrash one another. Jesus came to save not to condemn. Our emphasis is not on condemnation but right instruction.
Jeremiah 10:23-2423 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
24 O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
Judgment is not meted out in anger. It is given as instructions with a burden of loving concern.
Psalms 19:7-117 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
The judgments of God are desirable, rich and sweeter than honey.
Are the judgments of God like that to you?
Do you handle the judgments of God as if they are food or as if they are weapons?
2 Corinthians 3:5-6
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
God has made His saints and His ministers able ministers of the New Testament. Because we have the help of the Holy Spirit, we can use the Word and the Sword without killing those who are innocent.
Psalms 89:14-1514 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.
Judgment has a joyful sound. The saints love judgment. They rejoice in judgment. Judgment is part of our safety and the hedge about us protecting us from the world.
Deuteronomy 32:1-41 Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:
3 Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
Psalms 25:8-108 Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.
9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
You do not need to get hard and harsh and critical of those who are meek and easily entreated.
Those who are humble and meek are easily guided in judgment.
Psalms 37:29-3129 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.
31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
When saints get together and talk, they speak with wisdom and judgment. They don’t just talk about wisdom and judgment, they speak with wisdom and judgment.
Psalms 101:1-81 I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing.
2 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
This is done with joy and happiness and peace and mercy, not with condemnation and anger.
Psalms 119:65-6865 Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O LORD, according unto thy word.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.
68 Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes.
We gladly accept and desire the judgments of God. Our attitude is: “Teach us Lord.”
Psalms 149: 1-91 Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.
2 Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.
5 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.
6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;
7 To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.
We sing the songs of righteousness. We sing the songs of God’s holy judgments.
The instructions and judgments of God are a sweet sound.
They bring us into the safety of humble obedience.
Proverbs 21:3To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
Isaiah 1:25-2725 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:
26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellers as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.
27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.
Righteousness and mercy are always the companions of judgment.
Wrath is not present with judgment unless there is willful rebellion.
John 7:24Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
This is the common snare. People are tempted to believe what they see without praying and seeking the righteous discernment of the Holy Spirit. It is unjust to judge things based solely on the appearance of a thing. You must seek to know the motive of the heart.
A thing or an act may be wrong and the person be pure in heart.
Without knowledge of the law there is no sin. Where there is no law, there is no sin.
Romans 1:31-3231 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Romans 2 :1-61 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
If you know what truth is, you better get busy doing it.
If you know what sin is, you better refuse to give in to it, even if it brings death to your flesh.
There is no allowance or excuse for willful disobedience.
As saints of God, we will always choose death over sin.
Are you dead to sin and alive in Christ?
Or, are you dead to Christ because you are living in sin?
You can not be a sinner and a saint at the same time.
Are the judgments of God a sweet sound to you?
Are you rejoicing in the judgments of God?
When you find out that something is wrong, do you get sad and pout?
You should be glad and shout because God has been merciful to judge you before that great day when there will be no time for repentance.
Judge yourself this day:
· whether you love the judgments of God
· or hate the judgments of God
Listen to the Holy Spirit as He speaks truth to your heart.
